Summary of "how to tame a wild tongue"


 In "How To Tame A Wild Tongue" Gloria Anzaldua writes about being her academic culture, where she is expected to speak clearly and adhere to the American English Language. The other her Spanish Chicano culture, where specific edict expectations are placed on her at an early age and throughout her upbringing. Anzaldua describes, “Being Mexican is a state of soul – not one of mind.” This comes about after a lifetime of enduring two cultures demands. Anzaldua is that a language or “tongue” cannot be controlled because any attempt to control it would lead to its annihilation.Without a unique “tongue,” true self-expression would be impossible, which signifies the connection between language and identity.

The present skirmish is rooted in American history. The writer wants to explain what the definition of language is. As the writer says “It goes without saying, that language is also a political instrument, means, and proof of power.”A language comes into existence by means of brutal necessity, and the rules of the language are dictated by what the language must convey. The brutal truth is that the bulk of white people in American never had any interest in educating black people.

 Malcolm X was a religious activist and civil rights leader.He imprisoned for robbery in 1961 and he saw how the prison system worked, and then he decide to study read and write by himself.He don't want to study in college there are too many distractions,too much panty-raiding,fraternities,and boola-boola and all of that.Sometimes Malcolm X will study 15 hours a day.He read his own handwriting over and over that he copied into his tablet and printed.
